On vessels of up to 20 metres LOA. separate port and
starboard lanterns may be replaced by a single combined bicolour lantern
mounted on the centre line of the vessel.
The tricolour lantern should not be confused with the
masthead or steaming lantern. The tricolour lantern is strictly for vessels
under sail and should never be shown in conjunction with other lanterns.

The ‘POWER 2’ combination should not be used on vessels of
over 12 metres LOA.
Vessels under sail not using a tricolour lantern may show an
all round red lantern over an all round green lantern near the top of the mast
in conjunction with port, starboard and stern lanterns.
